Abstract
The rapid technological developments, make an information must be delivered very quickly. The existence of an email will be easier for people to send information to friends or relations with a very fast, even in seconds. Thus a mail server needs to handle the transfer and receipt of an email. The purpose of this research is to build a system mail server responsible for handling email traffic in a computer network system which is implemented in the platform of the famous linux free, reliable and stable as a function of the application server using Postfix MTA. Mail User Agent Support Squirrelmail will allow users to write or read an email from another user. To complete the manufacture of these mail servers, operating systems in use Slackware 13 and several other supporting software, such as Postfix, Apache, MySQL, Bind9, IMAP, and Squirrelmail. In an effort to build a linux based mail server using postfix conducted study and research by analyzing the system mail server that will be created by collecting data through the study of literature, either by book or by browsing the internet.

Pendahuluan
Perkembangan teknologi saat ini yang semakin pesat membuat sebuah informasi dibutuhkan dengan cepat. Pemanfaatan teknologi informasi, baik dari media cetak maupun elektronik tidak dapat dhindari lagi, terutama dalam bidang elektronik yang perkembangannya sangat luar biasa cepatnya. Menyampaikan informasi atau kabar yang dulunya menggunakan media surat melalui kantor POS sekarang sudah mulai beralih ke Email (Electronic Mail).
